There’s something so magical about welcoming a growing family into my studio, and recently, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing a beautiful family celebrating the arrival of their second daughter. The energy, love, and chaos that comes with a newborn and a toddler are all part of the story, and trust me, it’s a story worth capturing!
When families visit with their second (or third, or fourth!) baby, the dynamics shift in the most heartwarming ways. This session was no different. Their eldest daughter—a lively little bundle of curiosity—was excited to explore the studio. While the focus was, of course, on her brand-new baby sister, I always make sure the older siblings get their moments in the spotlight too.
We started the session with such an intimate and beautiful scene: mom and her two daughters. As she gently breastfed her newborn, the room filled with this sense of calm and connection that only a mother’s love can create. Her toddler sat close by, curious and playful, as we eased into the flow of the shoot. These quiet moments, where life feels both tender and real, are some of my absolute favorites to document.
Sessions like these can also be a little chaotic —toddlers don’t sit still for long, babies might need feeding or comforting, and there’s always the possibility of a wardrobe or snack break. But that’s the beauty of it all. These moments, however imperfect they seem at the time, are exactly what makes family life so special. My job is to embrace the chaos and capture the in-between moments: the giggles, the cuddles, and the pure love that radiates from everyone in the room.
The family brought along the most thoughtful detail: personalized knitted sweaters with each daughter’s name. The sweaters added such a lovely, personal touch to the session, and they’ll no doubt become a treasured keepsake for years to come.
